HUGHESVILLE - A 33-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of cruelty to animals for allegedly abandoning two small dogs in a trash-strewn, feces-infested trailer, where the temperature reached in the 90s, according to the local chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The dogs, a pit bull mix and a Boston terrier, likely would have died had SPCA humane officers not rescued them from the trailer at 152 Boak Ave. in Wolf Township on July 9.
"The two dogs were found in a bathroom that was trashed with animal feces. While the pit bull was loose in the small room, the terrier was confined to a small carrier that was filled with feces. The dog itself was covered with excrement," Larry Woltz, a humane officer for the SPCA said in an affidavit.
He has charged Tonya L. Rine, of 130 N. Mohawk Drive, Wolf Township, with allegedly abandoning the dogs, depriving them of food, water, sanitary shelter and veterinary care.
The dogs were rescued and received emergency veterinary care by the SPCA. No information was available about their status on Thursday night. Rine has been sent a summons to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Jon E. Kemp in Muncy.
