Williamsport graduate Jared Fagnano has transferred from Akron to Penn State to play football according to a story on ESPN.com. Fagnano is the younger brother of Jake Fagnano who is expected to be the Nittany Lions' starter at safety.
According to the ESPN?story, Jared Fagnano, a [referred walk-on at Akron, asked to be released from the Zips after not being invited to preseason camp. Penn State's sports information office said that no information of Fagnano's transfer was available, and that if there was any information it wouldn't come until early next week.
"With all those guys leaving, it opened up spots and gave me an opportunity," Fagnano told Josh Moyer of ESPN.com. "And I've just always wanted to play football there."
Fagnano was a second-team all-state receiver for the Millionaires as a senior in 2010. He had 57 receptions for 988 yards and 10 touchdowns in the Millionaires' 7-4 season.
With his transfer, he would have to sit out for a year, but would have three years of eligibility beginning with the 2013 football season.
"I wouldn't say it was an easy decision because I?liked Akron, I fit up there," Fagnano told Moyer. "But it was an easy decision in the sense I could play at Penn State and play with my brother. That's always kind of been a dream for me, just to be on Penn State. I was real excited when I?found out I had that opportunity."
