Rev. Rudy C. Johnson

Rev. Rudy C. Johnson, 87, of Leesburg, Va., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012. He was a retired New Tribes Mission representative. He also was a pilot and visited many New Tribes Missions in parts of the world.

Born June 24, 1925, in Mercy, N.C, he was the son of Robert H. and Emma M. Lovingood Johnson. While living in Jersey Shore, he preached at various area churches. He was a graduate of Presbyterian Bible College in Tacoma, Wash. and served as a pastor in the Seattle, Wash. area for a number of years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner on P.B.Y. planes. He received his honorable discharge in August of 1944.

His wife Marjorie Tissue Johnson died in 1986. His second wife Peggy Northway Johnson died in 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Johnson, of Birmingham, Al.; a son, Roy W. (Denise) Johnson, of Jersey Shore; two daughters, Peggy (Marvin) Davis, of Round Hill, Va. and Deborah Knisley, of Winchester, Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Orlando, Fla., with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at St. Mary's Late Chapel, Sanford, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Tribes Mission, 1000 E. First St., Sanford, FL 32771.
