I am saddened by the lack of respect shown to our national flag at public events. The most recent was when I had the privilege of attending the 8th annual Grand Slam parade here in Williamsport. As I stood up and placed my right hand over my heart to pay my respect to the American flag as it was presented, something that my parents taught me in my early years, tears welled up in my eyes when I looked around and saw how many people remained in their seats.
I know many will say, "well, it's the younger generation, they were /are just not taught such etiquette", but what I witnessed was an age range from the young to the elderly. Is patriotism a thing of the past?
Come on, people, many fine young men and women died for us in wars and the least we can do is show some respect for them and our national flag with patriotism
