A 19-year-old who was convicted of robbing a city taxi driver at gunpoint was sentenced to three to six years in state prison Tuesday by Judge Nancy L. Butts.
Michael Anthony Dredden, of 621 Lloyd St., was arrested April 20, a day after he and a co-conspirator robbed a Billtown Cab driver of $40 in the 1700 block of Memorial Ave.
With Dredden already in the taxi, the driver picked up Eugene Marquash Brown, 22, in the 800 block of High Street. Brown exited the cab without paying, prompting the driver to lock Dredden inside. That's when Dredden pointed a handgun to the driver's head and demanded money, according to police.
The men tried to escape, but police found them within 20 minutes at Cemetery and Scott streets.
The incident happened two days after Dredden was released from the Lycoming County Prison on drug charges.
