Grand Slam Parade

August 25, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Thank you, Chamber of Commerce for yet again a great parade bringing the Little League Teams to Williamsport. Despite the little bit of rain all in all it was fun.

It's nice to see that you take extra steps with volunteers & other ways to make the parade bigger & better each year. The volunteers that were there to keep the kids off the streets during the parade worked pretty good at first but of course there was some miscommunication somewhere.

The people walking with the floats were supposed to throw the candy to the kids so they wouldn't have to go out into the street but after the rain went thru we didn't see the security people anymore & the candy was thrown to far away the kids had to go into the street to get it.

I know it sounds like a complaint and I guess it is but we are writing this to give some feedback for something you tried to do to make everyones experience at the parade a good one.

A lot of people go to town very early in the morning to set out chairs to get good spots. It's annoying when the parade is going on to have a bunch of kids jumping out in front of you all night just to get candy so you can't see anything. That we know is the parents' responsibility.

One other thing we noticed that parents need to handle is to not let their kids take the candy they get and throw it back into the vehicles in the parade. A lot of the kids in the vehicles were not expecting it and one little girl almost got a lollipop stick right in her eye.

We realize the kids throwing the candy back at them didn't mean any harm by it and were having fun but they need to be careful before something happens and we no longer are able to have this nice parade every year.
