A four-run second inning helped propel the?Batavia Muckdogs to win their second game in a row against the Williamsport Crosscutters, 6-5, on Saturday.
The?Muckdogs collected 12 hits en route to the win. Crosscutters pitchers Ulises Joaquin (1-3) and Ramon Oviedo both gave up five hits.
The?Muckdogs scored on just the second at-bat when Garrett Wittels singled on a line drive to right field to drive a run in. David Popkins then had a 2-run home run two batters later. Steven?Ramos then grounded out towards the end of the inning to bring in the final run.
The Crosscutters scored three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to just one run. Kyle Hoppy hit a 2 RBI single into left field before Cameron?Perkins had an RBI single the very next batter to drive in another.
The Crosscutters had eight hits on the day, led by Perkins who went 3 for 4 and Hoppy who went 2 for 5. Both ended the game with 2 RBIs.
The Crosscutters took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cameron Perkins drove in Roman Quinn before Kyle Hoppy scored off a Christopher Serritella ground out.
The Crosscutters will attempt to avoid a three-game sweep today against Batavia at 1:05 p.m.
