LEWISBURG - Evangelical Community Health Education and Highmark Insurance will hold four programs this fall that focus on stress, diet, lifestyle choice and nutrition. Each program is open to the public with no or a reduced-rate registration fee for Highmark participants.

All classes require registration. For information, call Evangelical Community Health Education at 768-3200.

Programs include:

Daily Steps to Less Stress

Get to the root of stress and manage it through practical relaxation techniques and innovative stress management strategies. From coping skills to visualization, to progressive muscle relaxation and humor therapy participants acquire effective tools to deal with stress.

The Daily Steps to Less Stress class will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 5-26, at Evangelical Community Hospital. A fee applies for non-Highmark participants.

Drop 10 in 10

Reducing weight by 10 percent can reduce the risk or improve the management of chronic diseases associated with excess weight, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. During a 10-week management program, participants will aim to lose 10 pounds (or 10 percent) of their body weight through optimal nutrition, regular exercise and behavior change.

The program includes a combination of educational lectures, experiential or direct experience activities, self-study, self-monitoring and personal goal setting.

Drop 10 in 10 is designed to help individuals move away from the "all or nothing" mentality of fad dieting to the philosophy of making meaningful and long-lasting nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes.

Participants are encouraged to enroll in the program with friends, co-workers, family members or to team up with a fellow participant to aid each other through encouragement, accountability and motivation.

Drop 10 in 10 will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 5-Nov. 7 at Evangelical Community Hospital or 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 18-Nov. 20 at the Community Health Education Center. Fees apply.

Simple Choices, Profound Results

Our daily choices - such as what to eat, how to respond to stress, whether or not to smoke, how much to exercise and how to respond in our relationships - can impact health, well-being and survival. The "Simple Choices, Profound Results" class is a scientifically proven program to feel better, live longer and lose weight, based on the best-selling book "The Spectrum" by Dr. Dean Ornish.

Simple Choices will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 16, at the Community Zone in the Susquehanna Valley Mall, Selinsgrove. A fee applies for non-Highmark participants.

Eat Well For Life

"Eat Well For Life" is a lifestyle improvement program promoting wellness and long-term weight management through increasing physical activity and healthy eating.

It will be held 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursdays, Oct. 4-25, at the Community Health Education Center. A fee applies for non-Highmark participants.
