MILLERTON - Tioga County commissioners agreed to contract with Dr. Jason Lazor, of Williamsport, to provide medical services to inmates at the Tioga County Prison at the rate of $85 per hour and $27 per day on call.

The prison's longtime physician, Dr. William Keenan, also of Williamsport, indicated he no longer could provide services, said Commissioner Erick Coolidge during Tuesday's "on the road" meeting at the Jackson Township building.

"Finding personnel to cover responsibilities at the prison is a challenge at times. Dr. Keenan recommended this gentleman to us who would do this at the same rate," he said.

Lazor will come to the prison two days per week and also will be available on call.

According to Coolidge, no local doctors were interested in providing the services.

"They have enough practice and the hours wouldn't fit with their schedules. We were fortunate to find someone right away," Coolidge said.

In other business, the commissioners hired Rebecca Harer as executive assistant to the district attorney to replace Mary Kimble, at $17 per hour with benefits.

They also agreed to provide an after-hours paging service for HAVEN at $150 per month.

Their next meeting will be held Sept. 11 at the county courthouse.
