Labor Day: A day to celebrate the blessing of talent

September 3, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The best thing about labor is that there is nobility in it no matter how it shows itself.

We celebrate that today, Labor Day.

There are doctors and lawyers and CEOs completely stumped by a backed-up drain.

There are highly talented stockbrokers who are highly challenged to write a well-thought-out congratulatory letter.

And there are electricians who can solve the most complex system failure who consider a day in the office to be living hell.

We all have something to offer that is special to many people, from the laborer to the clerk who is the glue of an entire office to an office manager who quietly facilitates a smooth-running operation daily with dedication no one sees.

Salaries and benefits may differ, but the work we do is largely equal in purchase. In short, we all need each other's gifts to make this planet thrive and survive.

So today, we need to be thankful for the gifts we have been given to use for the benefits of others but equally thankful for what our friends, neighbors and deskmates bring to the party.

Labor Day is a celebration of the unique talents all of us possess and a day to give thanks for the opportunity to use those talents.

Enjoy the day and remember what it stands for.
