Mr. and Mrs. Gary L. Hess, Jersey Shore, are observing their 40th wedding anniversary today, Sept. 2, 2012.
They were married by the Rev. Fredrick Hasskarl at St. Mark Lutheran Church. They are members of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport.
Mrs. Hess, the former Connie Jean Artman, is a native of South Williamsport. She is the daughter of Charles F. Artman, South Williamsport, and the late Dorothy Artman. She graduated from South Williamsport Area High School in 1972. She is employed by Highmark as a dental claims examiner.

Mr. Hess, a native of Williamsport, is the son of Nancy and Herman Hess, Williamsport. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1970. He is employed by American Food and Vending Co. as a route driver.
They are the parents of two sons, Eric and William, both of Lock Haven, and a daughter, Angel Signor, Williamsport.
There are five grandchildren.
In honor of their anniversary, a family gathering is being planned.
