An unresponsive man who was believed to have overdosed on heroin in a car in the Dairy Queen parking lot on Hasting Street in South Williamsport had a packet of the controlled substance in his pants pocket, borough police said.
Kenneth Warren Wilkinson, 32, of Paxinos, was rushed to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center on the afternoon of May 10. He was treated and subsequently discharged, police sources said.
Inside Wilkinson's vehicle, officers discovered 22 empty packets that are used to packaged heroin and other controlled substances, police said.
Regional law enforcement officials said they are seeing more and more episodes of drug addicts "shooting up" their drug of choice, often heroin, in public places.
Wilkinson was recently arraigned before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, He was released on $2,500 bail.
