Liberty won its own boys soccer tournament on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Sayre in the championship game. Jacob Spring and Cody Schmouder had goals for the Mounties on Saturday.
Jersey Shore won the consolation game, 9-3.
Jake Bair scored two goals off two Jim McMahon assists as Montoursville finished second at the Burke Tournament. Montoursville defeated Hughesville, 2-1 in the semifinals as Bair's goal in the 72nd minute broke a 1-1 tie. Devin Marriott also scored for Montoursville.
Montoursville opened the game with six straight goals before Troy found the net en route to a 9-1 win in girls soccer at the?Stanley E.?Burke, Jr. Memorial Cup tournament. Lana Spitler scored three times while Tayler Eshbach scored twice.
Hughesville won the?Labor Day Lady Spartan Tournament with a shutout of Penns?Valley in the championship, 2-0. Alexis Avery and Ally Montgomery each scored to give the Spartans the win.
In the first game, Hughesville steam rolled Wyalusing, 10-0, thanks to a four-goal performance from Brittney Snyder, who scored the first three goals for the Spartans.?Snyder found the net just 51 seconds into the game.
Wyalusing defeated Northeast Bradford in the tournament, 4-2, thanks to Paighton?Martin's three goals.
The doubles teams of Sydney Schoch and Emily Shnyder and Alyssa Leblanc and Francesca Shrek won two matches each as Montgomery split matches against Bloomsburg and Selinsgrove at Saturday's Bloomsburg Tournament.
Montgomery won its second match, 4-1 over Selinsgrove as Kiana Gough and Kaylie Harer won singles matches.
Montoursville won the 2012 Bloomsburg Tournament in convincing fashion, defeating Bloomsburg for the title, 4-1, after blanking Selinsgrove, 5-0, in the fist round.
The?Warriors' Nicole Payne won the tournament?MVP award after defeating Selinsgrove's Hunter Shaffer, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and Bloomsburg's Ivy-Rose Kramer, 7-5, 6-6 (5-7), 7-5.
Chet Schwoyer finished in second place, leading the Williamsport boys cross country team to the championship at the Bear Mountain River Run at Lock Haven University. Greg Johnson also finished in the top 10, taking ninth while Herb Stelly finished 12th. Sullivan County also ran well, finishing third. Kelby Mullen, fourth, and Lucas Hatton, 19th, finished in the top 20.
The Williamsport girls finished in third as Sarah Worth, fourth and Julia Bresticker, ninth, placed in the top 10. Alexis Kiess took 15th for Sullivan.
Lewisburg senior Sean?Walker placed third at the Big?Valley Invitational with a time of 17:06 while senior Megan Wright led the Lewisburg girls with an eighth place finish with a time of 22:06.
Junior Nate Martin placed eighth for the Green?Dragons on the boys side, with a time of 17:50.
Senior Kristyn Grunza recorded a goal and an assist to lead Mansfield University field hockey to a 4-2 victory over St. Michael's College (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) in college field hockey.
Mansfield got on the board first after Grunza dribbled down the field and placed the shot in the right side of the cage from 10 yards out in the 15th minute.
St. Michael's recorded the equalizer in the 23rd minute to knot the game at one score apiece. Both defenses held strong as the 1-1 tie carried into halftime.
Lock Haven senior David Qaisi scored less than five minutes into the match to help?Lock Haven's men's soccer team defeat Seton Hall, 2-0, in its opener.
In women's soccer, Mansfield freshman Karyn Anselmo scored the go-ahead goal from 18 yards out in the 89th minute to lift the Mountaineers to a 2-1 victory over Goldey-Beacon in both teams season opener.
It marks the fourth straight season-opening win for the Mountaineers and the seventh time Mansfield won its season opener in the program's 11-year history.
In the 65th minute, Mansfield senior Erika Moyer beat the goalie in a one-on-one situation after a through ball from Anselmo to tie the game at one goal apiece. The goal marked Moyer's 11th career score at Mansfield.
Lock Haven opened the 2012 season with a shutout on the road against?Seton Hill, 2-0. Freshman?Katie Eichman logged her first career goal after Madison Taylor put Lock Haven ahead 1-0 in the 51st minute.
