6 motorists charged with DUI after city checkpoint

September 5, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

At a DUI checkpoint in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street in the city on Saturday night, the county's DUI Task Force charged six motorists with driving under the influence, according to William Solomon, task force coordinator.

Four of those charged turned out to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs, Solomon said.

Officers impounded one vehicle and a search warrant was going to be obtained to see if there were any illegal items, including drugs, inside the car, Solomon said. More details were expected to be released at a later date.

The checkpoint was part of a national campaign between Aug. 17 and Monday to get drunk drivers off the road, Solomon said.
