Dale Ned Smith

Dale Ned Smith, 79, passed away at home on Sept. 1, 2012, at home in Taylorsville, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Allenwood, Pa., to Roy L. and Dorothy B. Smith. Dale married Jacqueline Brown on Nov. 3, 1953, in Magna, Utah, later sealed in the Logan Temple. Dale and Jackie enjoyed 58 wonderful years together.

Dale was raised in rural Pennsylvania near the town of Hughesville and graduated from Hughesville High School in 1951, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force. He spent 12 years in the Air Force and eight years in the Army, serving in both Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army in 1972, Dale worked for Hercules, the Salt Lake Bomb Squad, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Dale was a faithful member of the LDS Church where he served in many callings. Dale enjoyed fishing, camping and working on cars.

Dale is survived by his wife, Jackie; their four children, Randall (Carol) Smith, Ricky (Donna) Smith, Steven (Sharon) Smith and Cheryl Beaton; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce Burkhardt; and grandson, Clayton Smith.

Funeral services will be held in Taylorsville, Utah, on Friday.
