Muncy library has record summer reading numbers

MUNCY - The Muncy Public Library hit record highs again this summer. There were 278 babies, children and teens signed up for the Summer Reading Program, "Dream Big, Read."

They won prizes for reading books over the summer and 141 finished, reading a combined total of 9,864 books. The library hosted 39 programs for families throughout the summer. Two hundred children and 100 adults enjoyed the various activities including, "Let's Make a Wacky Sculpture," Family Fun Night, a visit from Hershey Zoo and singer and guitarist Tom Seiling.

The top readers in each age group were:

Pre-K - Robert Jacobs, first; Kasey Rakestraw, second; and Sophia, Arianna and Carly Snyder, third.

First through third grade - Logan Rakestraw, first; Rory Oden, second; and Noah Smith, third.

Fourth through eighth grade - Hannah Smith, first; Sonja Hiserman, second; and Breanna Paulhamus, third.
