A local man faces charges after allegedly killing two dogs with an axe and burying their bodies in his backyard, according to police.

Frederick Larue Clark, 36, of 67 Second Ave., faces two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, after allegedly chopping up his two dogs.

According to court records, on April 28, Clark got into a verbal fight with his wife. During the course of the argument, Clark grabbed an axe and struck his male and female dachshund-pit bull mix dogs.

After killing both dogs with the axe, Clark then buried both of their carcasses in his back yard. Police exhumed the two carcasses and had them professionally examined. In court records, it was noted that that Clark had struck each dog several times before they died.

Clark also provided police with a written statement, testifying that he did kill his dogs and bury them in his yard, according to court records.

Clark was arraigned on Sept. 5 before District Judge James H. Sortman. He remains incarcerated in lieu of $25,000 bail.
