Real estate assessment appeals persist in Muncy School District

MUNCY - The Muncy School Board voted Monday night to add another parcel to the list of properties' assessed values, which are being challenged by the district.

An Aug. 20 vote paved the way for more than 80 properties' values to be appealed.

The board voted to add 229 E. Water St. in Muncy Creek Township to the list. The parcel recently sold for $1.37 million. Its assessed value is $431,330, according to county records.

That address is for the Cloverleaf Lanes bowling alley next to the Muncy Valley Hospital.

"We just plain missed this one. This was too big to ignore," said David J. Edkin, district business manager.

Affected property owners will get a letter from the county assessment office noting that their real estate assessments are being appealed by the school district.

The district is paying Lycoming County government $1,630 to process the appeals.

Property owners can contest appeals in front of the Lycoming County commissioners, who comprise the assessment appeals board. Edkin previously said that may take place around mid-October.
