Melvin R. Messner Sr., 80, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at the Henry County Medical Center in Springville, Tenn. His wife of 60 years, Delores Bennett Messner, survives.
Born July 12, 1932, in Nisbet, Pa., he was the son of the late Ernest and Esther Simpson Messner.
Melvin was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion and received the United Nations, National Defense and Korean Service medals.

He also leaves two daughters, Jeannie Kowalik and Cynthia Wilkins; three sisters, Doris Antes, Charlotte Lucas and Marlyn Stone; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His son, Melvin Jr. "Bobby," died in 1990.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla.
