Paul S. Swope, 82, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1930, in Turbotville, he was a son of Hugh M. and E. Ellen (Gold) Swope. Paul married Ann L. Dunham and would have celebrated 63 years together on Nov. 5. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters-in-law.
Paul was an Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion. He grew up in the Lutheran Church. Paul was a self-employed handyman for many years. As one of his jobs, he helped to build the Hiawatha Paddle Wheel Boat. He enjoyed building things, collecting and building wagons, having yard sales and watching old western movies.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Michael (Brenda) Swope of Nisbet; daughter, Wilma Reeder of Williamsport; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Heather Merrick, Marc Reeder, Jennifer Luera, Jeremiah Swope, Jason Beach, Samuel Swope and Shane Swope; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester Swope of Turbotville; two sisters, Florence Erdly of Watsontown and Margaret Umpstead of Montgomery; many nieces and nephews; and his cat, Mandi.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the Turbotville Cemetery, Turbotville. Following the graveside service, the family will have a gathering at the Gold Farm.
