Woman accused of stealing $17,000

September 13, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

While employed by Susquehanna Transit Co. as a bus ticket saleswoman Chantel D. Woods allegedly pocketed $17,000 of the company's money, according to city police.

In a videotaped confession, the 34-year-old admitted stealing the money from the transit company at 11 W. Church St. between August 2011 and January, Agent Ronald Bachman said in an affidavit.

After a bus ticket was sold, Woods, of 961 High St., would void the sale and put the cash from the sale in her pocketbook, Bachman said.

Although deleted from a computer, the tickets still were usable by the purchaser, he added.

Court records state that Woods stole the following amounts: $1,992 in August 2011; $2,236 in September 2011; $3,533 last October; $4,418 last November; $3,851 in December; and $1,332 in January.

Woods was terminated from her position and arraigned last week before District Judge Allen P. Page III on a felony theft charge.

Initially committed to the Lycoming County Prison, she has since been released on $15,000 bail.
