Local Naval officer to speak at university
Josh Watson, a native of Montoursville, will speak at 3:30 today in the Ford Building at Penn State University.
His presentation is part of the Recreation, Park and Tourism Management Department's Alumni Speaker Series. Watson graduated from Penn State in 2009 and is the director of recreation on the USS George H.W. Bush naval aircraft carrier.
He attained the rank of staff sergeant with the Army's 173 Airborne Brigade while serving in Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Young adult author to discuss his career
LEWISBURG - Jordan Sonnenblick will give the talk, "Not Quite J.K. Rowling: Thoughts on My Career as a Young Adult Author," at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Gallery Theatre of the Elaine Langone Center at Bucknell University.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Departments of English, Education and Psychology, as well as the Writing Center and the University Lectureship Committee.
Sonnenblick, who writes for young adults and middle-school readers, is a former middle-school English teacher in Phillipsburg, N.J. who also served with Teach for America. He is the author of five novels, including "Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie" and the "Dodger and Me" trilogy of funny fantasy books.
