"Non-citizens who are unlawfully present, are not, nor have they ever been, eligible to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits," the USDA said in a statement. "States must verify the immigration status of individuals who apply for benefits. Individuals applying for SNAP are required to provide documentation of their immigration status as a condition of eligibility."
Although it is law, do "we the people", or should I say politicians, really believe that illegal immigrants cannot get forged documents? Having lived in the Los Angeles area for more than 30 years, I was aware how many went to East Los Angeles and bought driver's licenses, birth certificates, Social Security cards, or whatever they needed to take advantage of the laws meant for the citizens of this great nation.
The first thing I can hear right now is that I am bigoted. Those that accuse me have no defense so they argue by putting me down. I have never, nor will I ever, turn my back on anyone who needs a helping hand. However, if they believe they are owed or have the attitude of "Everybody does it," so I can too, then those people will never receive help from me. We do harm to those who make excuses for their life. For when we stop helping then they want to riot, steal, and cause havoc.
"Spare the rod, Spoil the child" is a synonym of King Solomon's Proverbs. For instance; Proverb 21 verse 13, "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but 'the rod of correction shall drive if far from him." Whenever we do not discipline our children and teach them right from wrong, then they will grow up behaving anyway they wish. Hence, they learn how to take advantage of those who are so willing to help. Isn't this how many believe this and that they are owed?
The SNAP program was made into law to help those who are down for the moment and just need a helping hand up. Isn't this what the United States has always been about?
Sadly, we have been taken advantage of because of our generosity and caring for others. It is an honorable thing to help others. But if they expect it, or believe they are owed, then we do them more harm than good. It's like feeding a wild animal; when you stop they will attack and bite the hand that fed them. Do we humans not have that same attitude, no matter our nationality?
