Lycoming County residents will be required to present acceptable photo identification at the polls to be able to vote in the General Election on Nov. 6, Sandy Adams, county Voter Services director, said Tuesday during a Board of Elections meeting.
Identification must be current and contain an expiration date unless noted otherwise.
The name on the identification must contain the name of the voter and "substantially conform" to the name on the poll books.
Acceptable identification includes:
Photo ID issued by the state or federal governments, including a Pennsylvania Department of State ID for Voting Purposes.
Pennsylvania driver's license or non-driver's license photo ID, which are valid for 12 months after the expiration date.
Valid unexpired U.S. passport.
U.S. military ID. Active or retired military personnel must designate an expiration date or designate that the date is indefinite. Military dependent photo IDs must contain an expiration date.
Unexpired employee photo ID issued by federal, Pennsylvania, county or municipal government.
Unexpired photo ID cards from an accredited public or private Pennsylvania college or university.
Unexpired photo ID cards issued by a state care facility, including long-term care facilities, assisted living residences and personal care homes.
Adams said anyone needing assistance in obtaining a photo ID should contact Voter Services.
Voters with a religious objection to being photographed may present valid "without-photo" driver's license or ID card issued by the state Department of Transportation.
The board approved the moving of the Lewis Township voting precinct from the township municipal building to the Trout Run Fire Hall, 241 state Route 14, Trout Run.
Voters in the township requested the move, Adams said.
"Parking is much better at the fire hall and it is a little easier for voters to get in, so we feel this is a good move," she said.
The board also approved a referendum be placed on the ballot for two county municipalities that are in the Canton Area School District.
The referendum, which will be on the ballot for McIntyre and McNett townships in Lycoming County and municipalities in the school district in Tioga and Bradford counties, asks if voters want to eliminate the occupation tax by increasing the rate of the earned income tax, effective July 1, 2013.
If the majority of voters approve the referendum, real estate taxes will not be reduced or eliminated, Adams said.
In an effort to make it as easy as possible for county residents to register to vote, county Voter Services is extending its hours each Tuesday leading up to the Oct. 9 registration deadline, Adams said.
Voter Services typically is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will be open until 6 p.m. on Sept. 25, Oct. 2, and Oct. 9,
Voter Services is located on the first floor of the Executive Plaza, 330 Pine St., Williamsport.
