A heart walk Sept. 3 was popular and important enough to expand.
During Tuesday's regular monthly meeting of the Williamsport Board of Health, board members talked about the walk to raise money for heart and vascular health at Susquehanna Health and want to see it widenened to include strolls along the Susquehanna River Walk.
The heart walk is typically done on or near Labor Day.
Board member Dr. Rene Rigal said with the planned construction of the YMCA and its footprint along Park Avenue, he would like to see the river walk part of the equation.
The other issue the board discussed was how important it is for city employees and others to receive their influenza vaccinations.
He noted the 96 percent and above compliance at Susquehanna Health toward this end.
"Getting the shot decreases the chances of getting sickness," he said.
Many places will offer the shot for free, while pharmacies that offer it can bill certain insurances, and still others pay out of pocket for the vaccination, he said.
