William E. Lundy, 89, of DuBoistown, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1923, in Balls Mills, he was a son of the late John Raymond and Helen Rathmell Lundy.
William grew up in an Evangelical orphanage in Lewisburg with his five sisters and brother. He graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1941, and entered the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduation.
William and his wife, the former Dolores V. Cohick, were married Jan. 20, 1946.
Earlier in his career, William worked for the Reading Railroad. He was a self-employed painter for 30 years, and retired as a painter from the former Williamsport Area Community College after 10 years of employment.
William enjoyed hunting and fishing, feeding the squirrels off of his back porch, taking rides in the country and spending time with his family. He was an avid football fan and often spoke of baseball player Ted Williams.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William J. (Rebecca) of Williamsport, Robert D. of DuBoistown, Diane M. Steele of DuBoistown, Debra L. Harris of DuBoistown, David E. (Barbara) of Rauchtown; four sisters, Martha Steinback, Beatrice Kahler, Helen Smith, Esther Gleckner; a brother, John Lundy; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie McCarty and Alice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John's-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery.
