2,807 books read by K-5 students
in Williamsport Area School District
Young readers in the Williamsport Area School District have much to celebrate with the results of this year's collaborative "Dream Big" summer reading program held in partnership with the James V. Brown Library and the district's education foundation.
Among the 152 kindergarten to fifth-grade students who completed the program late last month, some 2,807 books were read between the district's six elementary schools. It's an outcome elementary Librarian Sarah Bohnert described as "very exciting" for the first-time partnership with the library, initiated last winter by the district's federal programs Director Dr. Susan Bigger.
"The district's partnership with James V. Brown was both a natural and mutually beneficial collaboration," Bigger said. "The library has many resources to offer the community and our students of WASD. As I learned more about these programs, it was easy to see the extensive literacy benefits for our children and families beyond the school day.
