City police: Marijuana sale turns into armed robbery

September 22, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

An arranged drug sale turned into an armed robbery in the 900 block of Vine Avenue early Wednesday morning, city police said.

Pasquale Padill Soto Jr., 19, of 654 Fourth Ave., and Joshua Chad Devaughn, 27, of 627 Fourth Ave., allegedly robbed Christopher Nelson, "a friend" of Devaughn's, about 12:45 a.m., police said.

Soto allegedly pulled a gun on Nelson after Devaughn "set up a deal where Soto, whose street name is 'Scoob,' could buy an (undisclosed) amount of marijuana from Nelson," police said.

Soto first demanded that Nelson hand over the marijuana, which he did, and then he gathered up several electronic gambling devices that were placed in a garbage bag, police said. After Soto bolted from the scene, Nelson demanded that Devaughn leave, police said.

Devaughn was arraigned late Wednesday night before District Judge James H. Sortman and Soto was arraigned hours later. Both men face charges of robbery, recklessly endangering, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property. Soto, who also was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu $100,00 bail while Devaughn was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
