Norma J. Schaefer

Norma J. Schaefer, 96, of Jersey Shore, Pa., passed away at ManorCare of Jersey Shore on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.

Norma was born on Aug. 28, 1916, in Jersey Shore, and was the daughter of the late Henry Oscar and Harriett Agnes Houser Gnau.

Norma graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1935. She worked as a beautician in the Jersey Shore, Lock Haven and Williamsport areas. She also worked at the Victoria Theater for many years and Lehman's Pharmacy.

Norma was a life member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years and was active with the PTA serving as president. She enjoyed reading, traveling and playing scrabble.

Norma is survived by a son, Carl E. Schaefer of Jersey Shore; a daughter, "Mick" Mary A. Miller (Russell) of Jersey Shore; a sister, Janet Louise Belknap of Staunton, Va.; and by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Norma is predeceased by her first husband, Clair Marks during World War II and by George Schaefer; a son, C. William Marks; a brother, Lewis H. Gnau and by three sisters, Eva Leahy, Inez Gnau and her infant sister, Zona.

Family and friends are invited to attend Norma's Life Celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, Pa. Services will follow on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kerry Aucker officiating. The interment will follow on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Jersey Shore Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers so that memorial contributions can be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Elevator Fund, 229 S. Broad St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
