The value of the ride

September 25, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

In response to the letter "Shorter Please", my husband and I have participated in the 9/11 run for many years. The run is intended to show support for the victims, and their families, also to show our support for the sacrifices of the present and past servicemen and women and their families. As we ride through the areas, it is wonderful to see the people waving flags, clapping, cheering to show the pride this country still has and knowing that we will always remember what happened that day.

I know I ride with tears in my eyes most of the time! Yes, there is an inconvenience for the traffic, but next time either plan ahead and leave in time to get where you need or reroute yourself to avoid the run altogether or, better yet, get out of your car, stand on the curb, raise a flag and appreciate and remember the ones who died to give you the rights you have! Also, one more small note, most of the riders do volunteer in many other ways to help people. This ride is just one way to reflect and appreciate the fact that we do have the rights we have.
