The Williamsport Area High School Millionaire football team, in conjunction with the WAHS Student Council, is collecting canned food to help support the local food pantries.
Students can drop off cans all week during school and fans are asked to bring cans to the 7 p.m. varsity football game at WAHS stadium Friday night when the Millionaires battle the Dallas Mountaineers. There will be donation barrels at all of the stadium entrances.
Head Coach Kevin Choate said all donations will be divided between St. Anthony's Center, Sojourner's Truth and Antioch Baptist Church. He is asking his football players to personally bring in donations.
"It is important for the team to give back to the community," Choate said. "They need to know there is nothing free and these are the people they need to support."
The football boosters also are having a "Pink Out" at the 7 p.m. Oct. 5 home football game to raise funds for cancer awareness. Shirts will be for sale Friday and during Homecoming on Oct. 5.
Last year, the boosters raised more than $3,000 for the Susquehanna Health's Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center, according to organizers.
