Traffic detours on East Third Street
Crews from HRI Inc. are removing railroad ties from beneath East Third Street between Penn and Chatham streets until the end of this week, according to city officials.
City engineer John Grado suggested Tuesday that most motorists can use Washington Boulevard to get around the worksite and local traffic can use Church Street.
The work will continue through the end of the week and is part of a 2012 reconstruction project to smooth the road surface because the ties beneath are causing a bumpy driving surface.
The work was supposed to take place in both the north- and southbound lanes from just west of the railroad overpass to the Route 287 interchange.
