Gregory N. Nezzo

Gregory N. Nezzo, 97, formerly of the 300 block of West Seventh Ave., South Williamsport, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at the Williamsport Home where he had lived in the apartments for a number of years.

Greg's wife of 67 years, the former Julia A. Thomas, died Feb. 24, 2008.

Greg was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where he was their Sunday School Superintendent during the 1960s. Upon their closing, he became a member of the Pine Street United Methodist Church.

Greg was a 72-year member of the Masonic Blue Lodge 106 and a 32rd degree mason. Greg and his wife spent 34 winters in Florida where he was a member of a Masonic group, the Square Club, in Ellenton, Fla.

Greg was a 1933 graduate of the Williamsport High School, former president of the Montoursville Rotary and a past chairman of the Lycoming County Heart Assoc.

Greg retired in 1970 from Prudential Insurance Co. after 31 years of service. In the 1960s, he was one of their leading underwriters. He was also a member of the company's Leaders Club.

Born April 11, 1915, in Wellsboro, he was the son of Anthony F. and Mary (Roti) Nezzo.

Surviving are daughters, Dr. Carol S. Nezzo of College Park, Md., and Jeanne L. (Alfred) Knecht of Montoursville; brother, A. Richard DeNezzo of Toms River, N.J.; sister, Phyllis Marra of Naples, Fla.; grandsons, twins, Wilfred (Melissa) and Matthew Knecht and Christopher Ellepola; great-grandsons, Zachary Willard Knecht and Nicholas Gregory Knecht.

Greg was predeceased by a brother, Robert J. Nezzo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St., with Pastor Karen W. Atanasoff officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in his name may be made to the church.
