Marion J. Gruver

Mrs. Marion J. Gruver, age 93 and three quarters, resident of Sullivan Terrace, passed away on Wednesday evening, Sept. 26, 2012, at the Riverwoods in Lewisburg, Pa., with her loving family at her side.

Marion was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., a daughter of the late William Daniel and Elsie Wilson Plummer. She graduated from the Wyoming, Pa., High School, a member of the class of 1936, and from Albright College in 1941 with a B.A. in English.

She had a career in market research at Research 100 in Princeton, N.J. She married Jack Gruver of Wyoming, Pa., in 1943 and they resided 23 years in East Brunswick, N.J. where Jack was employed by the Sun Oil Co., retiring in 1977. They retired to Sarasota, Fla., for "the best years of their lives" and later returned to Toms River, N.J., in 1989 and then to the Pittston area in 1993. Jack predeceased her on June 28, 2001, after 58 years of marriage.

Marion moved to Sullivan Terrace in Dushore, Pa., in 2002. She was well known in the community and was a member of the Dushore Tuesday Book Club. Marion enjoyed traveling especially on railroad trains and was an ardent New York Yankee fan. She spent every winter in Florida until 2011.

Surviving are two sons, William R. and Joan Gruver of Eagles Mere, Pa., and Jack Gruver Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Jill and John Puleo of Lebanon, N.J.; three grandchildren, Amanda Puleo, Alexandra Puleo, Jackson Gruver; a brother, William E. and Helen Plummer of Salem, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Plummer of Akron, Pa.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Mere Community Church with the Rev. Deane S. Shively, officiating. Interment will be in the Eagles Mere Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa., from 4 to 6 p.m.
