The campus of Lycoming College, family residences and old homes converted into rental residences all but dominate the 100 block of Washington Boulevard.
And then there's Maximum Fitness, 159 Washington Blvd., a sports nutrition and health supplement store, which opened last week.
Owner Jen Luckenbill and her husband, Brett, are hoping the store is just the start of bigger business plans down the road.

Everything, she said, is reasonably priced.
"We have top-of-the line customer service and all your favorite name brands at a low price," she said.
Among the recognizable products and brands are: Luna and Cliff Bars, Gold Standard, Universal Nutrition, BSN, MHP, and BPI.
She can order products not found at her store.
Luckenbill feels her location across from the college and close to sites such as the Fitness Factory and the eventual relocation of the YMCA from downtown to near the Williamsport Regional Medical Center are a big plus for the business.
Luckenbill spent much of the summer getting the site ready.
Renovations inside and around the outside of the building have given it a fresh new look.
With its big letters across the front of the building, the Maximum Fitness sign is hard to miss for motorists going up and down Washington Boulevard.
Eventually, she hopes to add a smoothie bar and two tanning beds.
"We plan to grow," she said.
Luckenbill said she gave a lot of thought to running her own business, even if she didn't put together any kind of grand business plan.
The future could bring more Maximum Fitness sites.
However, Luckenbill made it clear that her store is not part of a franchise.
A special grand opening is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
