The Marriott hotel under development at Church and Laurel streets may get to put up business identification signs should City Council approve requests for a certificate of appropriateness at its meeting Thursday night.
The Residence Inn Marriott has been under construction for several months and its corporate owner, Chartwell Laurel Street LLC, went before the city Planning Commission Monday to ask for a certificate of appropriateness.
The request is for two signs, one of them a 24-foot-high sign on a pole along Church Street and another spread across the exterior of the building.
The planning commission gave the company a positive recommendation and forwarded it to council.
Council next meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
