The Consolidated Sportsmen of Lycoming County has set its 2012 schedule for metallic silhouette rifle matches. Shooters do not need to be a member to compete. For more information, contact Al Foust at 435-0043 or alf2520@verizon.net.

Smallbore Rifle: 9 a.m. Oct. 21

The Lycoming Trap Shooters at CSLC has open shooting from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays and 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Fee applies.

NRA Basic Handgun shooting courses will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Mondays. Each course will be a minimum of 10 hours. New classes begin every two weeks. For more information, call Raymond George 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 368-1107.

Shoot for a cause in October - Get your old, dusty shotgun out of storage and come shoot trap or skeet for a good cause from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Consolidated Sportsmen of Lycoming County's grounds. The club will hold a charity fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Gun safety will be taught from noon to 12:30 p.m., with shooting following. A fee applies per 25 clay targets and half of the cost will benefit the American Cancer Society. The concession stand will be open and all proceeds will be given to the society. Shooters must have ear and eye protection along with their own gun and ammo. For more information, call Nathan Tempesco at 433-4474.

Registered CMP .22 Rimfire Sporter Match shoot, 9 a.m. Oct. 21. Shooters may use a bolt, pump, lever or semi-auto .22 rimfire rifle that holds five shoots and that are equipped with open ironsights or scopes. No match guns. Bring 100 .22 shells. An entry fee will be collected for this shoot, which is open to the public. Rules will be explained prior to the shoot. Awards will be given to shooters with qualifying scores in each class.

Ladies 5-week program: Classroom training on firearms safety and handling as well as tactics in self-defense, in particular, dealing with home invasions. Participants must attend each date - 5-8 p.m. Oct. 10 and 5-7 p.m. Oct. 17, 24, 31 and Nov. 7.

Beginners Firearms Safety Course: Participants will learn how to safely load a firearm, safely unload a firearm, safe clearing procedures, basic pistol shooting skills, the differences between a revolver and semi-automatic pistol and how to shoot each one, and more. One-day classes will be held 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 13; 5-8 p.m. Oct. 18; and 6-9 p.m. Oct. 29.
