A Camp Hill-based consulting group is scheduled to present its economic development strategy Thursday night to City Council.
Representatives from Delta Development will demonstrate maps and concepts of a long-range strategy to be phased-in over the coming months and years, Mayor Gabriel J. Campana said.
The discussion is expected to cover a number of projects, including updates on the plans and financing options to make Destination 2014 a reality, Campana said.
That project is a planned phased-in reuse and redevelopment of buildings on the YMCA block as the non-profit organization plans to build another facility on Park Avenue, south of the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
It includes:
Expanding and redeveloping Pickelner Arena into a civic arena with ice;
Razing a portion of the YMCA that houses the pool and gymnasium to create space for stores;
Converting the older portion of the YMCA building on West Fourth Street into a conference center and residential space, and
Creating a green-space town square atmosphere with a bump-up parking lot on the eastern edge of the block near Hepburn Street.
Several parking options will be discussed, such as what could be done when the Mid-Town Parking garage is razed. William E. Nichols Jr., city finance director, said that is scheduled to be demolished in the spring.
Improvements to Susquehanna State Park along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River near the DuBoistown bridge also are part of the economic development package, Campana said.
