Irvin Lamont Guthrie

Irvin Lamont Guthrie, 84, of Williamsport, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at the Williamsport Home after an extended illness. He was a life long resident of East End.

He was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Williamsport, the son of Clyde Lynn and Ella Louise (Fay) Guthrie.

Irvin attended the Williamsport School District.

He married the former Mary C. Gephart on Oct. 28, 1947.

Irvin was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving on the USS Kenneth D. Bailey as a Petty Officer.

He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Irvin was an officer with the Blue Hill Rod & Gun Club.

He enjoyed archery and gardening. He was especially proud of the fact he is a plank owner from the USS Kenneth D. Bailey DD713 and February of 1947 he crossed the equator.

Irvin was a master carpenter for his brother Ronald Guthrie General Contracting. He made many cabinets for local businesses and residence.

He adored his family.

Surviving, besides his wife Mary of nearly 65 years, are his children, Edward Lamont (Debra) Guthrie of Williamsport, Gail Louise (Gary) Sauter of Orem, Utah, Dennis Lyle (Deborah) Guthrie of South Williamsport and Denise Lorraine (Jim) Beaver of West Minster, Md.; two brothers, Ronald Lee Guthrie of Williamsport, Robert Laverne Guthrie of Montoursville; 10 grandchildren who are all so dear to his heart, Erik, Prudence, Gabriel, Heather, Jon, Amberlynn, Kristin, Christine, Steven and Ryan.

Relatives and friends are invited to Irvin's Life Celebration service 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701, with Pastor Susan Lynch officiating. A visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery with full Military Honors being observed in Irvin's honor.

His family suggests contributions can be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 324 S. Howard St., South Williamsport, PA 17702.
