Local roundup: Hughesville picks up impressive win

Brittany Snyder continued her torrid scoring stretch Wednesday as Hughesville pounded Mount Carmel, 5-0, and recorded an impressive girls soccer win on Wednesday. Snyder recorded her third straight hat trick and now has 21 goals in 11 games. The Spartans (8-3) also received goals from Abby Montgomery and Michelle Mostowy. Melanie Santo had two assists.

Six South Williamsport players scored goals as the Mounties cruised to a 6-0 win over Montgomery. Laura Rook had two assists while Miranda Young scored and added an assist.

Katie Burdett, Allie Pagana, Asia Ungard and Morgan Chambers scored goals as Loyalsock blanked Shamokin, 4-0, and clinched a District 4 Class A playoff berth.

Taylor Landis scored off a Sarah Grow assist in the 63rd minute and Warrior Run remained undefeated, blanking Southern Columbia, 1-0. The Defenders outshot Southern, 21-6 and improved to 10-0.

Benton shut out St. John Neumann, 8-0. Casey Gavin and Kayla Wyllie each scored two goals in the win.

Williamsport was outshot by eight in a 2-0 loss to Selinsgrove. The Millionaires had a goal wiped off the board by a handball and missed the ensuing penalty kick. The Seals scored twice in the final 10 minutes to break a scoreless tie.

In girls tennis, Milton closed the regular season with a 4-1 win over Central Columbia. The Black Panthers (10-8) swept the doubles matches.

Liberty defeated Wellsboro, 4-3. Wellsboro won two of the three singles matches, but Liberty took the third and fourth singles matches and both doubles matches in the win.

Cowanesque Valley defeated Williamson, 7-0, sweeping all seven matches. Cowanesque Valley won the top four singles matches without dropping a single game.

In girls cross country, Sullivan County's Alexis Keiss finished ninth overall as the Griffins went 2-2. Keiss finished in 23:23 for the Griffins.

In boys cross country, Kelby Mullen took first place in 17:18 for Sullivan County as the Griffins finished 2-2. Lucas HaTton was eighth for Sullivan in 18:52.

In field hockey, Mercyhurst's Marissa Faso and Cayla Slade scored two goals each in a 5-4 win over Mansfield. Kristyn Grunza scored two goals for Mansfield.

In women's soccer, Shippensburg downed Mansfield, 5-1.

Lock Haven's Katie Elchman scored in the 21st minute and the Lady Eagles tied East Stroudsburg, 1-1.

In men's soccer, Jacob Oldaker scored two goals and added an assist as Lock Haven defeated East Stroudsburg, 3-0. Ben Weaver added a goal and an assist for the Bald Eagles.

Behind a goal and an assist from both Kory Barto and Mike Krebs, Lycoming defeated Albright, 3-1. Charlie Vess scored his fifth goal of the season.

While peppering the goal with 50 shots, Penn College defeated PSU Scranton, 8-0. Yousef Alyamani and Ali Almehdhar each scored two goals in the win.

In women's volleyball, Lycoming defeated Alvernia, 3-0. Bethany Richardson led the Warriors wth 12 kills while Kristin Whitehead had 13 digs.
