Silver Sneakers group raises funds for ACES

October 7, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Silver Sneakers participants at the Eastern Lycoming YMCA held a successful fundraiser for ACES North America.

This is a local nonprofit organization, which supports programs in the Dominican Republic.

The Silver Sneakers group raised $650 during August. This was enough to purchase a water pump and piping for two abandoned greenhouses in the community of Triple Ozama.

The impoverished village is the focus of the latest efforts by ACES to assist with local development. Plans are under way for ACES volunteers to work in the village on various building projects, beginning in January.

Donations of school, first aid and medical supplies were collected by the Silver Sneaker members. The large plastic tub filled with their contributions will be sent to the Dominican Republic in October. ACES North America will ship a 40-foot container filled with requested items at that time.

ACES North America was founded in Williamsport by one woman with a vision. After hearing a presentation about the organization, the Silver Sneakers joined in the effort to support education and community development in the Dominican Republic.
