I served in the Army and have an uncle who was killed while serving in the Army. I also have friend who is friends with a man hurt in the Twin Towers attack, so while I can never imagine what those awful events were like that day firsthand, I do know what it's like to serve our country so it can be free and have felt the loss of people that were killed or hurt doing so.
But the 9/11 ride is just that...a bike run.
It's great people remember and stand by the road and wave to the bikers and those involved...but you can do the same in church.
I and many others across the country go to church and reflect on that day and pray for those who lost their lives or serve our country...you don't need to stand along the road to reflect (although God is everywhere.)
I also am part of many people across the country to do good on that day by helping others either in the community or some person in need.
Many people use the day to help at the Salvation Army or other like services.
Use that day and time to do something constructive and that helps others instead of going for a cruise and blocking traffic and burning gas.
And if one wants to pay homage or reflect, talk to God or go to church, just don't make out like the only way to remember is by a bike ride or watching it go by.
