Carl A. Neidig, 91, formerly of Fink Ave., Williamsport, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather.
Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Williamsport, he was a son of Adam and Alice Derr Neidig. Carl spent his childhood helping in the family grocery store in East End. He also spent time on Loyalsock Creek at the family cabin on Lyons Barr.
Carl served in the Navy during World War II from July 1942 to Dec. 1945 in the Pacific Fleet on the USS Alabama and USS Mountrail as Water Tender 2nd Class. He retired from C.A. Reed Co. in 1983 after over 30 years of service.

He was a life member of LeRoy O. Buck Post No. 7863 VFW, DuBoistown, a past Commander of VFW Post 844, past District Commander of VFW's 15th district, and life member of American Legion Post 1. Carl was a member of 40 & 8 Club, Highland Lake, Knights of Columbus, a committeeman of Boy Scout troop 52, and a devoted member of the former Ascension Catholic Church where he served as an usher.
Carl was a model train enthusiast; a fan of NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson; and a Penn State, Notre Dame and Navy football fan. The annual Army vs. Navy game was a highlight to the college football season for him.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J.; two sons, David (Susan) Neidig of Huntersville, and Timothy (Susan) Neidig of South Williamsport; a granddaughter, Allyson (Aaron) Bower; two grandsons, Adam and Alex Neidig; sister-in-law, Ruthie Phillips of N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Wagner Neidig in 1979; a son, Rick Neidig in 2009; sisters, Rhoda Kiessling, Grace Bell and Clara Maurer; and brothers, Howard, Ralph and Andrew Neidig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport. Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church lounge.
Burial will be held at St. Boniface Cemetery, Williamsport with full military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carl's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256.
