James R. Cassidy

James R. Cassidy, 75, formerly of Burlington, N.J., died Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2012, in the Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Feb. 18, 1937, in Williamsport, Pa., he was the son of Fred C. Cassidy and the former Alma B. West. James was a 1955 graduate of the Williamsport High School and graduated Cum Laude from Lycoming College with a B.A. Degree in Biology. While a student at Lycoming, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

James started his career serving in the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He then worked for the N.Y. Central Railroad and ultimately retired from Conrail after many years of service.

A philosopher by nature, James was an avid reader who enjoyed boating, studying aquatic life and driving through the countryside.

James is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Marlene (Reinard) Frech of Waterville, Pa.; three beloved daughters, Meryl A. (Michael) Andrezzi of Mantua, N.J., Susan M. (Michael) Bogda of Kinnelon, N.J., and Erin E. (Michael) Leschak of Burlington, N.J.; seven loving grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin, Renee, Jon, Zachary, Christopher and Kurtis; two loyal brothers, Daniel K. (Mary) Cassidy of Montoursville and Michael D. (Carol) Cassidy of Williamsport.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from noon Thursday until time of services in the funeral home. Rev. Helen Learn will officiate. Burial will be in the Waterville Cemetery.
