Road projects updated

A roadwork project in Newberry that's led to a number of letters and questions about the work timeline was reviewed for City Council by a city administrator last week.

Work under the oversight by the Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary to replace water lines in the area of Reach Road on Arch Street to Third Street is expected to continue for another two months.

The authority's contractor, Marazzaco, is overseeing a project to install 24- and 30-inch water lines under the road surface, said John Grado, city engineer and director of community and economic development.

The contractor has completed work on a water line on West Third Street, from Poplar Street to Arch Street, but continues efforts from Arch Street to Hall Avenue.

The next step is for subcontractors to put down a base course and by early spring the contractor will resurface those streets.

"The base coat will give them time to wait for any potential leaks in the pipes and settlement of the road materials," Grado said.

Grado recently provided City Council with an update on the project.
