Montoursville Borough Council this week appointed a former councilman to fill a vacancy on its board.

Eugene Boyles will replace Gary Marshall, who resigned earlier this month.

The vote was 3-1 to appoint Boyles.

Voting yes were Robert Brobson, Kim DiRocco and Ronald Shearer.

Dennis Holt cast the lone no vote. Mark Tillson was absent.

"I voted against Gene because he just lost an election last year," explained Holt. "And he lost the election by quite a bit. And you are going against the will of the people by putting him in."

Former Councilman William Holmes was the only other person seeking the vacant council seat.

In other matters, council appointed Christopher Lucas to the recreation board. He replaces Dan Nichols, who resigned in August.
