Graduating seniors gave the Loyalsock Township School Board a piece of their mind on Wednesday.
They did so via a classwide survey, the first of its kind in the district.
Christina Herman, director of student services, said the district contracted Lifetrack Services Inc. to give surveys to graduates to find out what the students thought of the district and its services. The class of 2012 was the first to do so.
"What it's designed to do is give students the opportunity to tell us how we do," she explained after the meeting.
Every member of the 2012 class filled out the survey, Herman said.
When it came to what students plan to do after graduation, 89 percent said they would attend either a four- or two-year college. Most students, 91 percent, believed the district helped them prepare for future career choices.
When it came to environment, 85 percent said the district did an "excellent" or "good" job of preparing them to transition to their next step.
"We commit a lot of time and effort in career building," said Superintendent Robert Grantier.
The board was surprised to see students admit that only 77 percent of them believed they invested enough time and effort into their studies.
But 29 percent also said the district was "below average" when it came to providing a drug-free environment.
Grantier said the information gives the district an opportunity to improve. He said the district still is working on its drug policy and "all good things take time."
Herman said the next step for the class is to have another survey at 18 months and at five years, as well. She said it's important to see where they can improve and how they are helping their students.
