After the first senior's name was called, a long silence fell over the crowd as they waited for the next name. But, as groups of parents began to look around to find answers, a message came over the loud speaker asking the fans to remain patient.
The wait was soon over and lines of Loyalsock boys soccer seniors and parents were honored for their commitment over the last four seasons.
And much like the request for the crowd to remain patient, the Lancers needed to exercise the same type of discipline as a flurry of first half shots failed to break through.
Any concerns, though, were put by the wayside as Tyler Quigley notched a late first half goal, which opened the doors for a six goal second half en route to a 7-1 win over Jersey Shore Tuesday on Loyalsock's senior night.
"I'm always concerned when the shots aren't going in," Loyalsock coach Andy Zimmerman said. "That's what happened the first time we played them at Jersey Shore. It was the same in the first half except they were able to capitalize on two opportunities. We had a rush in the second half, but couldn't put any away. That was my concern coming in here."
Zimmerman's concerns stemmed from Loyalsock's first meeting with Jersey Shore, when the Lancers failed to hold a 1-0 lead when a late first half goal by Jersey Shore's Evan Jenkins leveled the score. Hibbs gave the Lancers a 2-1 second half lead, but that crumbled as well when Zach Lehman broke through to force the tie.
Loyalsock avoided a repeat performance Tuesday when Tyler Quigley's first half goal was greeted by a Hibbs tally 10 minutes into the second half. Quigley cushioned the lead three minutes later when he produced his second goal. Quigley also finished with two assists.
"It made me feel so happy," Quigley said. "I was happy to get two assists and really enjoyed coming out here and making stuff happen on my senior night."
Hibbs added another goal midway through the second half when he lofted a shot over the keeper and into the upper left corner of the goal.
And they continued to capitalize as two more seniors got in on the scoring. Jonathan Covert connected on a long freekick chance, punting the ball over the keeper's head for a surprising goal.
Moments later, Caleb Voucolo punched in a goal when he intercepted a ball near midfield for a one-on-one chance.
"It was great," Quigley said. "We couldn't have asked for a better second half."
Despite a convincing night at net from Louis Comfort, who made a diving stop in the first half to keep Jersey Shore off the board, the Bulldogs squeezed in a late goal.
Clayton Newton found himself with a perfect chance inside the box, and sent a shot to the far post.
