These comments are in response to the recent vandalism of materials needed for the ice hockey arena at Bowman Field reported on the front page of the Oct. 10 issue of the Sun-Gazette. Was the vandalism a random act or was it directed? We may never know the answer to this question but this is an open letter to those who do know you know who you are.
The ice arena at Bowman Field will be an important advantage for both the city of Williamsport and especially for the kids of Williamsport and surrounding communities. Ice hockey sports historically draw from a wide geographic area. The professional hockey team will likely draw from outlying counties across Pennsylvania and even from New York State. Many of these sports fans will discover Williamsport for the first time this winter and some of that number are also likely to return in the summer to watch, for the first time, our professional baseball team play at Bowman Field. Think of the ice arena as a win-win situation for everyone.
