Teachers under stress

October 22, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

I consider myself extremely lucky to have the teachers that I had my last four years of high school.

They were very dedicated, inspirational, educational and just fun to be around.

They did a lot of extra things for us kids at the time and they did it for free.

Back in the day, our teachers had respect from us students, and they gave respect back. We had discipline in the schools back then and also a reasonable dress code, plus the boys shaved and had decent haircuts, and everybody had a clean cut look.

I wouldn't want to be a teacher in today's society.

Most students think the world owes them a living. They show little or no respect for the teachers, there is little or no discipline in the schools today, and that's why we, as a nation, lag behind the rest of the world.

There is a program on TV where they show teachers, who have been suspended and have to attend anger management classes.

One example, a female teacher, who was teaching a junior and senior class, walked down the aisle between the students when one senior class boy stood up and grabbed her breast. The teacher slapped the boy and then he spit in her face.

Guess what happened. The boy got sent home for the day, but the female teacher got suspended for a month and had to attend anger management class.

These kind of actions happen in the schools more than most people know.

We need to get discipline, respect and a decent dress code for students back in the schools. I know the teachers today are pretty well paid, but unless things change in our school systems, I think teachers get stressed out and lose interest in the teaching profession.
